TATTOUR 2025
TATTOUR 2025
Neighbour Co. was commissioned to design the comprehensive event identity for TATTOUR Hong Kong 2025 at PMQ, featuring 55 artists from 15 countries, the project sought to foster deep cultural exchange by grounding an international convention within Hong Kong’s unique local heritage.
Driven by the design concept of "55 tattoo artists, 55 localised identities.”, the core idea involved translating every artist’s name into Cantonese and crafting a bespoke Chinese typeface for each. Every character was stylistically tailored to reflect the specific aesthetic of the individual artist. This typographic bridge served to spark curiosity within the local community and create a meaningful dialogue between foreign creators and the public.
To complement the typography, a secondary graphic system was built using a collage of textures found in the tattooing process. By layering elements like ink bleeds, translucent tracing paper, and raw line sketches, the identity captured the visceral, tactile nature of the craft. This provided a gritty yet cohesive visual language that unified the diverse range of artistic styles present.
The identity was seamlessly applied across multiple touchpoints, including event installations, souvenirs, advertising and social media content. By blending hyper-local typography with the physical textures of the medium, Neighbour Co. transformed PMQ into an immersive environment that honoured both the individual artist and the city’s cultural landscape.
